The Gardens on Havana
Buckingham Square Mall, at one time was the premiere retail center in Aurora, Colorado. As this Denver suburban city has grown to become the third largest city in Colorado, the mall's importance was diminished by other retail centers. In an effort to revitalize the area around the mall and along Havana Street, redeveloping the mall became a key objective.
Miller Weingarten Realty partnered with the city to demolish the mall and develop a mixed-use center with a new street grid, a retail village and public gathering places anchored by Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, Sprouts Markets, and Kohl's.
Naos Design Group, as staff of O'Brien & Associates, Norris Design and 505 Design created a walkable center with garden trellises, pocket parks, broken up areas of parking, water features and a center rose garden with a tall obelisk. The Gardens on Havana features contemporary designed brick masonry, textured concrete masonry and stucco.
